Support for Scouting for low-income families
Financial support
Scouting is about everyone being able to learn skills for life and have fun. At 7th Airedale (St Margaret’s) Scouts we would never want a young person to miss out due to the cost. If you’re at all concerned about covering the cost of our membership fee or any activities, please speak to the Section Leader in your child’s section in confidence, as there are many ways we can support you.
If you received any of the following income-based benefits and would benefit from financial support, please get in touch with your child’s Section Leader.
- Universal credit
- Child Tax Credit and have a yearly income of less than £16,190 before tax and not receiving Working Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit run-on – you might get this for 4 weeks if you’re no longer eligible for Working Tax Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Guarantee Credit (part of Pension Credit)
Proof of receiving the benefit will need be shown to the section leader at the first term that your child attends and then annually at the start of the Autumn term.
A request for financial support will be discussed and decided between the Group Lead Volunteers. Financial support given to individuals may vary from term-to-term dependent on the financial position of the charity. Any information given will be kept in strict confidence and only shared with the Group Lead Volunteers.
Uniform bank and camping equipment loan.
Due to the increase in living costs, we are mindful that many families will be impacted by this. Buying uniforms and camping equipment for growing children can be an expensive business and with your Beaver, Cub or Scout ever growing it’s difficult to keep up with changing sizes of uniform.
With this in mind, we have decided to set up a uniform bank and camping equipment loaning bank. While saving money using our uniform bank and camping equipment loan. You are also helping to save the planet by taking part in this uniform/camping equipment recycling initiative.
If your child has changed sections or grown out of any of their uniforms and you would like to donate it so we can to recycle for someone else, please hand them to one of the Group Leaders. These items will be donated to children from low-income families. If we receive surplus stock of uniform, we will offer these to the rest of the families within the group with a voluntary contribution. Any donations received will go towards funding activities and camps for our young people.
We will also be collecting any clean, usable camping equipment and clothing such as sleeping bags, sleeping mats, waterproofs, and walking boots that we can loan out to any families within our group for camp. We will request that after use the item is returned to us in a usable condition so that it can be passed on to the next user. If the item is damaged or not in a useable condition, we will ask for a donation to replace the item. If you have any items that you would be happy to donate, please hand them to a Leader.
